The Ecosistema 100 project was created with the aim of creating an inclusive ecosystem that allows groups of young people in the city of Milan to be the protagonists of the development of their city.

Thanks to a strong link with the territory and the experiences of social innovation, the project intends to develop a network of subjects that can act as a guide and support to 100 groups of young people, offering them the opportunity to exercise their knowledge and develop their ideas, the capacity for imagination and the drive to carry out concrete actions for an inclusive city.

The 100 ideas that are accompanied will not be a simple aggregation of elements, but a real ecosystem that will therefore welcome all possible aspirations and give voice to the multiplicity of ideas and identities to make young people the architects of change.

Starting from this drive, it creates forms of accompaniment capable of including young people with different levels of maturity in expressing their needs and recognizing their value for the city in the construction of solid design forms. In addition, it aims to create a strong territorial network that supports youth protagonism while giving access to spaces in which the groups involved can also have a dimension of concrete encounter.

Ecosistema 100 pays particular attention to young people living in areas of the city that have specific characteristics and fragilities, in order to contribute to making Milan an inclusive city that focuses on the role of young people as agents of change.

Ecosistema 100 intends to create an inclusive system that to help strengthen the protagonism of young people as active actors in the city of Milan, through the creation of an educating community of mentor bodies that will accompany groups of young people in the realization of their ideas, with particular attention to those who live in conditions of marginality and educational poverty.

The project aims to:

  • Accompanying groups of young people in the development of skills
  • Connecting youth groups and support networks and local realities
  • Making city spaces accessible to offer a dimension of encounter and intervention

The beneficiaries of the project are:

  • Formal and informal groups of young people (ages 14-18), resident or active in the city of Milan with particular attention to young people with fewer opportunities.
  • Entities identified as mentors who will accompany groups of young people in the implementation of ideas (subjects with territorial roots and/or technical and thematic skills).

Indirect recipients:

  • Local subjects who work for youth activation and who will benefit from the ecosystem promoted by the project in terms of collaboration with similar or complementary realities.

Project activities

The main activities of the project are:

  • Through interception, selection and training activities, a Mentor Register is created, which includes local bodies and realities that accompany groups of young people in the definition and implementation of their ideas.
  • Through the analysis of the needs and requirements of the groups of young people and the skills made available, a coherent matching is created between the Mentor institution and the group of young people.
  • To support the development of young people’s protagonists, an educational and territorial community is created through community of practice activities and training courses.
  • Interception and activation of a Space Register to provide groups of young people with a spatial dimension of encounter: groups of young people and mentors are accompanied in the knowledge and use of the spaces.
  • Tramite attività di animazione territoriale ed eventi pubblici si promuove la mobilitazione delle realtà ed enti della città che lavorano a diretto contatto con i giovani e dei gruppi di giovani stessi.
  • Training and accompaniment of youth groups, through mentoring activities, provision of a “toolbox” to support the entire cycle of implementation of a project idea, system of meetings to evaluate the path and training sessions based on the non-formal education approach.
