Within the Programme YEP – Young Enterprise Program – aiming at supporting youth entrepreneurship – an international project event was recently held in Milan.
On Tuesday 19th June, Caroline Cooke from Foroige (reference person for NFTE Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship program) and Sofia Corsi (ALDA European Association for Local Democracy.Project Development Officer) joined the project roundtable together with our partner Acción contra el Hambre, ALCC – Associação Lusofonia, Cultura e Cidadania and some “Yeppers” previously selected for the training and incubation phase in Lisbon, Milan and Madrid.
While the partners and experts were having their meeting, the young italian, spanish and portuguese Yeppers were working and reflecting together about their experience, to assess their participation to the program through non formal education activities.
They have been discussing on their common difficulties they had to face, on the solutions they found out to solve their problems, and on how they manage to overcome their obstacles.
On this occasion, the Yeppers also discussed about possible rooms of improvement they would suggest for future similar projects.
For example, they suggested to provide a stronger one-to-one support and to foster more networking occasions to meet other participants and implement their a peer-to-peer learning.
Besides that, on the 20th of June, we promoted a public event where numerous experts took part to two different roundtables dedicated on access to credit and funding management and personalised mentorship, a necessary matter in order to offer a complete support to those youngsters willing to start their own business.

The YEP project is supported by a multi-sectorial partnership composed by: the Municipality of Milan, G. Brodolini Foundation and Impact Hub Milano; the Municipality of Lisbon and ALCC Associazione Lusofonia Cultura e Ciudadania; Acción contra el Hambre and the Employment Agency of Madrid and the program is going to end at October 2018.
The contents collected during the project thanks to the exchange of good practices, experiences, methods and tools learnt throughout the programme will be systematised in 3 Intellectual Outputs, downloaded freely here:
- Handbook on no-profit organisations’ role to support youngsters with fewer opportunities’ entrepreneurial competences
- Toolkit for trainers
- Methodological document on the incubation of enterprises promoted by vulnerable youth.
As a matter of fact, thanks to the YEP – Young Enterprise Program, we promoted a personalized training, incubation and social tutoring pathway, based on non formal education learning methods, delivered to around 80 youngsters with fewer opportunities:
➢ TRAINING: among the most relevant topics addressed during the lessons: business planning, market and clients analysis, and also entrepreneurial transversal competences (such as: team work, communication, etc.)
➢ INCUBATION: at the end of the training, the young participants presented their business ideas during a pitch event and the best 15 ideas were selected to benefit of an incubation phase, that included both group lessons, individual meeting and networking and funding opportunities
➢ SOCIAL TUTORING: all the yougsters benefitted from an individual support for the whole duration of the project, finalised to their needs’ taking over and to the valorization of their potential.
Among the “Yeppers” business ideas there are:
- A website to match supply with demand about temporary lodging (Milan)
- A multi-functional social centre with bar, bicycle repair and recreational space for youngsters – Ciclofficina Pontegiallo (Milan)
- A personal chef specialized in regional cuisine (Milano)
- A yoga school both for kids and adults
- A digital platform to connect tourists with photographers: com (Madrid)
- Fashion Services of creation and design of clothing (Lisbon)
- Video maker e community radio host (Lisbon)
